In short: WordMate asks you to create an account, stores your learning progress on my server, shows a public leaderboard, and uses your microphone only when you practice pronunciation. There are no ads, and I do not sell your personal data.
WordMate ("the app") is a vocabulary-learning app for Uzbek speakers learning foreign languages, developed and owned by Ajmal ("I", "me", "my"). This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the app, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, you provide your first and last name, phone number, Telegram ID, and a password. Your phone number is verified through Telegram. You can later add an email address, gender, date of birth, and a profile photo.
Profile photo. If you add a profile photo, you can take it with your camera or choose it from your gallery. The app uses the camera only for this purpose and only when you choose it.
Learning data. Words you learn, review, favorite, or mark as hard; your levels, daily goals, streaks, activity calendar, quiz answers and history, achievements, and referral activity (your invite link and how many people joined with it).
Voice recordings. In pronunciation practice (shadowing), the app records your voice only after you start a recording and allow microphone access. The recording is sent to my server to evaluate your attempt and show you the result.
Translator text. Text you type into the translator is sent to my server to be translated.
Subscription information. If you buy a PRO subscription, I record the plan, period, any promo code you enter, and your subscription status. The app itself does not ask for or store payment card details.
Notification token and device data. To send you notifications, the app uses Firebase Cloud Messaging, which gives your device a notification token that is stored with your account. Firebase may also collect technical identifiers needed to deliver messages. The app checks your device type only to make notifications work.
WordMate does not collect your precise location or contacts, and does not use advertising identifiers.
2. How we use information
- To create your account, verify your phone number, and let you sign in
- To save your progress, stats, streaks, and achievements
- To run the leaderboard and referral features
- To provide translations, pronunciation feedback, audio, videos, and podcasts
- To manage PRO subscriptions and promo codes
- To send reminders and notifications you have allowed
- To fix bugs, improve the app, and keep it secure
3. What other users can see
The leaderboard and public profiles show your name or username, profile photo, level, streak, number of learned words, achievements, and daily activity to other WordMate users. Your phone number is not shown. You can change your name and photo in your profile.
4. Sharing of information
I do not sell your personal information. Your data is stored on my own servers. I share information only with the services needed to run the app:
- Telegram, to verify your phone number when you sign up
- Google Firebase, to deliver push notifications (Google Privacy Policy)
- YouTube, because some cartoon videos play through the YouTube player. By watching them you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's privacy policy applies to that playback.
- Google Fonts, which may supply font files to the app
I may also disclose information if required by law.
5. Advertising
WordMate does not contain advertising and does not share your data with advertisers. If this changes, I will update this policy first.
6. Data retention and deletion
I keep your account and learning data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and its data at any time in the app under Settings, using the delete account option. You can also request deletion by emailing itsajmalabraham@gmail.com. I will delete your data within 30 days, except where the law requires me to keep some of it.
7. Security
The app communicates with my server over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and sign-in tokens are kept in your device's secure storage. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Permissions the app may ask for
- Microphone: for pronunciation practice
- Camera: to take a profile photo
- Notifications: for learning reminders and updates
You can turn these off at any time in your device settings. The app still works without them, except for the feature each one supports.
9. Children's privacy
WordMate is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact me and I will delete it.
10. Your rights
You can view and edit your profile in the app, and you can ask to access, correct, or delete the personal information I hold about you by emailing me at the address below.
11. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the "Last updated" date changed accordingly.
